PRMK 308 Introduction to Letterpress
By means of traditional hand typesetting, students will work with metal and antique wooden type with ornaments and print with a variety of papers on a letterpress.Through a number of experiments and projects students will gain an understanding of the history of printing type, book formats, fundamental terminology and other related equipment. Students will produce one-of-a-kind books and small editions or portfolios.

PRMK 309 Imagemaking on the Hand Press
This course will concentrate on the use of letterpress printing for image-making. Using vintage wood and metal type, linoleum and woodcuts, drqwings, collage prints, non-traditional print processes; the class will complete small projects to acquaint students with various techniques and equipment. Demonstrations on creating a visual narrative, sequence and series, structures for artist's book.

PRMK 310 Letterpress Language : Typography, Books, and Printing
This course explores the language of type and its relevance to our own written and visual creations. Letterpress Language focuses on the formal properties of typography and its capacity to extend the written language as a sequence of individual letters. The class will explore the possibilities of meaning through type at the levels of the word, the line and the page. Students will produce printed books from their writings and explore the use of type as a graphic element. The class will include guests and field trips.

PRMK 311 Innovative Letterpress
This course will introduce numerous crossover possibilities between type, printmaking, and photography. Students will create visual books and posters combining traditional handset letterpress printing with a variety of digital and non-traditional letterpress techniques. There will be demonstrations and lectures regularly through out the semester.

PRMK 312 Building the Contemporary Book
Students will develop a strong working knowledge of the tools and materials used in contemporary book arts while learning how to integrate structure with content in the development of their own one-of-a-kind books. Students will develop and build on creative ideas using the artists' book as a medium, focusing on the use of non-adhesive binding as a means to producing contemporary books. Whatever a student's discipline, re-conceiving ideas as an artists' book will expand and enrich their understanding of those ideas. Students will use various methods to explore the structure and content of contemporary book making and explore new ways of thinking.
