Ital 101 Beginning Italian: Level I
3 credits

Students will learn to understand, speak, read, and write Italian at a beginning level. Grammatical concepts will be explained and practiced through dialogues, exercises and conversation. Concepts emphasized in the first semester are nouns, pronouns, adjectives, the present and past tense of all regular and irregular verbs.

Ital 102 Beginning Italian: Level II
3 credits

The goal of this course is communication in Italian at a beginning level. To achieve this goal, students will continue learning to understand, speak, read and write Italian, with greater attention given to reading and writing. The grammatical focus of the course is to acquaint students with new verb tenses and structures, which will complement those learned in the first semester.

Ital 201 Intermediate Italian I
3 credits

The goal of this course is communication in Italian at a beginning level. Ital 202 Intermediate Italian II
3 credits

The goal of this course is communication in Italian at a beginning level. To achieve this goal, students will continue learning to understand, speak, read and write Italian, with greater attention given to reading and writing. The grammatical focus of the course is to acquaint students with new verb tenses and structures, which will complement those learned in Intermediate Italian I.

Ital 301 Advanced Italian II
3 credits

This course is designed for students who have completed two years of Italian and already know the fundamental elements of grammar and will be able to manipulate sentence syntax. Students are able to take advantage of the cultural environment with a range of audio-visual materials including Italian television news items, documentaries, television shows and films. Written texts from specialized books such as travel guides, newspaper and weekly magazine articles as well as advertisements and passages from fictional works. The class concentrates on learning strategies for reading, listening, watching, writing and, speaking.
